April...Is a month filled with new life and an uplifting energy...that you can't deny...even if you could. Who could not feel a dance in their step and their heart opening up...looking at all the lovely...flowers...blooming everywhere...and pretty green leaves popping up on tree limbs...that not so long ago...looked barren and void of life.
Being an avid lover of gardening...I have already been to my favorite garden centers...and purchased a few new rose bushes...herbs...and tomato plants...and lovingly planted them in clay containers..placing them in just the right spot in my backyard. I go out each morning...like a mother hen...to say hello to them and see how they are coming along...because I know from gardening experience...those first few weeks after I bring them home from the garden centers...and transplant them...can be a sensitive time. Either they took to their new home...and soil...or they didn't. Gardening is like life that way...some things thrive...and other things just don't work... no matter how much you want it to.
I find myself more and more...returning to my garden...to teach me lessons about life. I can laugh at myself now...for all those years that I believed my life had to be a certain way...and that I did too. For many years...I held a belief that I had to be perfect...and do everything perfect...until I became aware that nothing in nature or my garden is perfect...and yet is still so very beautiful...especially because of the imperfections.
Once...I had a shrub...that I wanted to dig up...but it's roots were so deep...and so firmly attached in the soil...no matter what I did...or muscle I used...it wouldn't budge. I became so frustrated and even angry at that shrub...I never liked it...which was why I was digging it up...to plant something else...that would fit my vision I had for my garden. I became very determined to get rid of that shrub...believe me. I got madder and madder...as the days went by...attempting to dig it up. My husband offered to dig it up...I said no. This was my battle.
And I wasn't winning it.
One day...I starting pondering...how that damn shrub represented so many issues and situations that I had clung to in my life...resisted...and down right wouldn't let go of. I made a positive choice right then and there...to give myself permission to just "let go" of all those issues...anger and hurts that I was holding onto...finally...once and for all. I wrote a list of all those issues...lit a candle and said a prayer of "release". I took the list I had written down...dug a hole in a flower bed... buried the list...and walked away.
I made a choice to go ahead and plant my new shrubs and flowers around those roots...of the shrub that wouldn't budge. I ignored those roots...and instead embraced the pleasure and joy of planting and caring for my new plants in my garden. They thrived...and so did I.
A few months later...yes you guessed it...I tried to dig up those roots...again...but this time...it was with a more loving and positive attitude.
Remember...I had let go of so many of my own issues...months before... that I had written out and buried in my garden...that were rooted deep within me. I was a different woman. At peace with myself.
After...quite a few attempts...sweat...and using my muscles...those roots still wouldn't budge. I walked away...understanding finally that it was okay...if those roots couldn't be dug up in my garden. I had planted beautiful new shrubs and flowers around those roots...and they were doing very well...thriving actually.
That gardening experience...taught me a very valuable and vital life lesson. That ugly...shrub in my garden...really in truth...was not about the shrub I couldn't budge out of the ground. It was about me...holding on very deeply...what I needed to release from my life...in order for me to grow. No one...including me...or you...can ever grow...or thrive...or create a life for yourself that is more loving or positive...if your inner world is rooted in the past...your mistakes...your anger...or your hurts. You must "release" and let go. Stop resisting change and new life...by clinging to the negative.
My garden...is my "place"...my refuge...my healer...my teacher. Time and time again...my garden has taught me about life...the different seasons I must experience as a woman... that all humans must experience. The cycles of ups and downs...renewal...decay...death...letting go...and rebirth.
The circle of life...your life...cannot be resisted...clung to...or denied. Embrace each season...open yourself to change...and the flow of your life...will take you safely...where you are to be planted...to grow strong... dig deep roots... to be... who you are meant to be.
May you thrive this April,
Victoria
Praise the spells
and bless the charms,
I found April in my arms.
April golden, April cloudy,
Gracious,cruel,tender,rowdy;
April soft in flowered languor,
April cold with sudden anger,
Ever changing ever true--
I love April, I love you,

SEASONAL LIVING AND TIMELESS TRADITIONS MARCH 2016
March musings...This month reminds me of a butterfly...being sent free from the confides of a cocoon...and opening it's wings for the first time...to glide gently in the promising wind of the coming Spring.
The Spring cycle...carries on it's wings...the energy of hope...faith and renewal for the coming year. It is a season... to me...to start over...and begin new things...including how I think...and how I see my world. And my place in it.
Like a fresh coat of paint...I am starting this new season by freshening up my life...from the inside out. This Winter I worked on how I spend my time...in life affirming ways...that add meaning and value to my life...and a very honest look on how I waste my time too...doing things that add no value to my life. Because you know... that is a choice too...it is up to me and to you...for the who...what and when.
For me...making conscious choices to close the door...on certain activities...like watching the news...at lunch...spending time on the phone with folks who wanted me to listen to them complain about anything and everything..reading negative comments on social media...committing myself to social events...that I have no interest in...were areas that I knew in my heart.. were.taking me far away from my creativity...and leaving me feeling drained. So at the beginning of this year...I took a wise risk...and stopped engaging in these energy and soul draining activities.
And guess what? Not only do I not miss these things...closing the door on them...has opened a new door for me... a doorway of so much more personal freedom and time...to actively pursue things and people that make me feel alive and are life affirming.
I have more physical energy too...live more in present time...and have a new sense of inner peace and joy...just from letting go of these few energy and time wasting activities. It really was an eye opener for me...and I will continue to seek doors to close...that are wasting my time...so more positive doors open for me.
I encourage you to reflect on how you too can live a more life affirming way of daily living...and then just do it. Out with the old...to make way for the new...so this Spring...and for many more Spring seasons to come..your days will be filled...not with draining activities...but each precious hour filled with peace...creativity...and the joy of this thing we call life.
Because your life matters.Every single minute of it.
Happy Spring to you.

SEASONAL LIVING AND TIMELESS TRADITIONS FEBRUARY 2016
February musings... This month finds me feeling refreshed...and bubbling with inner inspiration...after taking a much needed sabbatical in January. I think everyone... just needs to step away from "doing" and all those to do lists we think we need to do...and take care of tending to one's needs and soul care...whether for a day...a few hours...or however long you intuitively feel you need.
I like to call my sabbaticals... my "soul" vacation.
Because that is exactly what I do...connect to my soul.
An act of self-love...that I practice...each January...to acknowledge that I am more than a human being...I am also a spiritual being...living a human experience. I find that when I give myself a spiritual renewal and cleansing vacation from the stress and chaos of today's world... my soul...my heart opens up even more when I feed it with beauty...meaning...and the sacredness of life. And my part or role in that sacredness.
Giving myself this time of deep reflection and the journey to my soul...allows me to "cleanse" any negative attachments that I have allowed in my life over the course of the previous year...and gives me the space to see what really matters. Investing my time in caring and nurturing my soul... and filling my plate each day...not with the drama of the world...but the offerings each day of creativity...beauty...love...and the joy of embracing life with an open heart...changes me for the better...and gives me a more positive outlook on my life...and the world at large.
One thing I became really clear about last year...and gained even more insight on in the month of January is how very short life truly is...how valuable each moment is...and how important it is for me...to use my time wisely... and with my heart wide open. There is indeed some very scary issues in the world right now...and hate and anger seem to be rampant.., but that doesn't mean I have to consume my thoughts and time adding more fuel to this out of control fire. Rather...I am taking the high road...and focusing my time and energy on what I value...and choosing to be happy instead.
It would be easy for me...to stay rattled...and live in a constant state of fear... because truth is... turning on the news...listening to the radio... and looking at social media...these days...can be quite shocking...with all the negative events occurring daily...and peoples negative attitudes. This does not mean I do not watch the news...because I do...but I know where and what mental compartment to put it in...and I do not dwell on it all day.Or sit and talk about it...or listen to others talking about gloom and doom either. I move on to better issues and tasks,,,that feed my soul. Like my creativity...growing my business Seasonal Living and Timeless Traditions...taking care of myself and my family...spending time in prayer and meditation...visiting my garden...reading something that helps my mind improve...feeding the birds and squirrels...listening to the rain...watching a young mother walk her small child...smiling at strangers...appreciating art and good music... feeling the wind on my face when I walk outside...giving money to a homeless person...laughing...holding hands...shopping for and cooking a good meal...you know... tasks from my soul.
This yearly "soul" vacation keeps me on my path of living with intention...and rekindles my inner light on ways I can live from that peaceful and lovely space... of my heart...my soul...more authentically...consistently and with a deeper commitment...each and every day.
This wonderful month of February ...give yourself a Valentine... one of giving yourself permission to pursue and embrace living from your heart. Take time to explore who you truly are...what matters to you...and how you can fill each day with more joy...personal fulfillment and happiness.
Your life matters...your creativity matters...your smile and goodness matters. Do not waste any more time on the gloom and doom of the world...make each moment count...and it will...when you live with your heart... wide open.
Blessings,
Victoria

PERSONAL SELF-LOVE CELEBRATION...
One of the most challenging steps in your life can be learning how to love...respect...and accept yourself...warts...mistakes and all. The thing is...you do need and deserve to love yourself...in fact if you do not...you will have quite a few hard lessons in this area...instead of the happy...rewarding experience that life offers each and every one of us.
Cleansing and purging celebrations...are very empowering...as they mark and declare you are wanting a more positive life experience...and also give you clarity on issues or new directions you may need or want for yourself. You must of course follow through with action...to make the change you are seeking.
Below...I have written out for you...a very simple...but self-empowering celebration that you can hold for yourself...this month of February...traditionally...a month that symbolizes love.
SUPPLIES...small notebook or pieces of paper...pen...small fire proof container with a lid (an old saucepan with a lid is perfect)...matches

Once you feel intuitively the day or evening to hold this celebration...get all your supplies together beforehand...so you can have a nice flow...and not have to go look for items once you start.
When you are ready...sit comfortably somewhere...and have your paper or notebook...and pen ready to use. Close your eyes and breath slowly for a few minutes...allowing your mind and body to relax with your breathing. Now ask yourself...honestly...because you do know the truthful answers...where you are not loving...respecting...or accepting yourself. Write these truths on your paper or notebook now...and continue to list everything until you feel complete...and have honestly written out the ways you are not loving...respecting...or accepting yourself.
When you feel complete...take a few moments to look at what you have written...and allow any emotions to come up...as this process can bring up feelings that you have long denied or buried deep inside you. You might also find yourself crying...please allow yourself to do so.
When you feel you are ready...say goodbye to your list...making a vow to yourself...that you want to learn to love ...respect...and accept yourself from this moment on...and will do the inner work and action steps necessary to do so. Next... set fire to your paper with your lists...throw it into the fireproof container...and watch it burn...turning into ashes.
Spend a few moments reflecting on this celebration you have just completed...say a prayer or ask for guidance...for your journey of learning how to love...respect...and accept yourself.
*** There are some really good books on learning how to love yourself...I encourage you to research and then purchase these valuable books...to assist you.

...FOR YOUR HEART
Work on forgiving yourself. Work on letting go of control...and always having to be right. Begin each day with gratitude.
Do not waste any more time on the gloom and doom of the world...make each moment count...and it will...when you live with your heart... wide open.
Blessings,
Victoria

SEASONAL LIVING AND TIMELESS TRADITIONS DECEMBER 2015
December musings... The holiday celebrations...my family and friends... the shopping.. paper and bows....the gifts...and of course all the good food I will prepare...gladly eat and share with my loved ones...will create another holiday season...of sweet memories that will stay close to my heart forever.
The spirit of Christmas truly is about the rebirth of your soul...and goodwill to all...something I want to carry with me...each and everyday. I am the first to admit that in a world of constant turmoil... violence... and chaos...I have my moments of despair and worry...about what the future will look like for my children and grandchildren. This is only human...to worry and feel fearful...at times. But that is really not the answer for me or for you.To live in constant emotional turmoil is not living at all...or allowing your soul to embrace the goodness and joy that life truly is.
This month of December rebirth that place in your heart and soul...that knows that somehow everything will work out...and that your purpose is to not live in hate...fear or worry...but to have a faith in something that is far bigger than you are...or any human for that matter. Trust and have deep hope. Make each day count...and be grateful for all you have. This holiday season embrace your heart...and share your love for your family and friends...and focus on that beautiful light...instead of the darkness. Love is the most powerful force in the world...and the world needs your love...not your fear.
May you be blessed this holiday month...with all things right and good in the world...and the very best wishes...for a happy and abundant New Year.
Because there is hope...and goodness in the world...always...and you can make a difference...by sharing your love and light...because it is the right thing to do. The only thing to do.
Always.
Happy holidays to you,
Victoria

OUT WITH THE OLD BATH SOAK
There is something so symbolic about taking a long soak...to cleanse and release yourself...on New Year's Eve or as close to the end of this year that you can get...that I believe should be a tradition for everyone. Before you take your cleansing soak to release the old...write down on a piece of paper issues...past hurts...patterns or anything that you no longer want or need in your life...in the New Year.
Run a hot bath...that you add 2 cups Epsom salts...2 cups of apple cider vinegar...and 10 drops of Rosemary...Sage...or Lemon pure essential oil while the water is running. Each one of these natural ingredients has cleansing and detoxing properties...and are also loaded with physical health benefits...for you.
Before you get in your soak...take a moment or two to read over your prepared list that you want to release...and you can if you want ask for guidance or say a prayer...or verbally make a deep commitment to yourself that you no longer what these listed items in your life...and are willing to do what it takes to let them go.
As you soak...imagine you are washing away all you want to release from your list...saying it out loud...to put emotion into it...declaring like you mean it...that you are done once and for all...with these issues.
When you feel complete...take a moment or two to just rest in the bath water...then towel off...and relax for a bit. Spend a few minutes writing down what changes you need to make...and the action steps necessary by you...to move forward without the issues you just washed away...in the New Year.
Ask each person...how they could be a more loving...positive and giving person in the New Year. Give each person a few moments to ponder this question.
When everyone is ready...have each person take a flower bud and say out loud what they are going to do to be a more loving...positive...giving human being in this New Year...and then place their flower bud into the bowl of water. After everyone is done...encourage everyone to clap and then hug one another...in celebration of everyone making 2016 a more positive life experience for the whole family.
Happy New Year!

...FOR YOUR HEART

SEASONAL LIVING AND TIMELESS TRADITIONS NOVEMBER 2015
November musings...My children...my husband...my grandson...sunrises...my garden...hugs...herbs...warm clothes...fresh water...taking a bath...candle light...rainy days...laughter...a clean house...freedom...good health... goat milk soap...good food...quality friends...quiet...solitude...options...wisdom...fresh flowers in my home...trees...all of these simple...and joyful things are some of what I am most grateful for in my life.
Really as I have gotten older...and hopefully much wiser...I have come to appreciate the small things...which are the big things to me...in my life...with such gratitude. Oh yes of course...I do understand the value...and it's place...of having a nice home...and the resources to live comfortably... but it is all the "love"stuff..that I value more...and give thanks for...than at any other cycle in my life.
Never take your life...for granted. If you look very close...at all you really do have...to appreciate...and be thankful for...you will stay in a place of gratitude. Life is not about the stuff you have...or want to have...but truly is about the quality of the simple...inner heart things you have...that no one...or any situation can ever take away from you...or be replaced with something material.
This Thanksgiving month...embrace all you have to be grateful for...including the gift of being alive.
Gratitude...is seeing your life...with your heart.
And really...that is what it is all about.
Blessings to you,
Victoria
" November comes
And November goes
with the last red berries
and the first white snows.
With night coming early,
And dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket
And frost by the gate.
The fires burn
And the kettles sing,
And the earth sinks to rest
Until next spring."

THANKSGIVING GRATITUDE SHRINE (ALTAR)
Little altars or shrines are special places...where you can create in a small area... in your home...a way to honor or celebrate a favorite event...holiday...life change...or just for memory making.
It is so pleasurable to take candles...pictures...greenery or flowers...knick knacks and mementos...placed together to make a life story... from them...that gives you meaning in such a creative way.
Find that perfect table...counter...or nook... in your home this month...to make your Thanksgiving Gratitude shrine.Collect items in your home that are a symbol to you of what you are grateful for this Thanksgiving month...such as pictures of your family or friends...postcards of places you were able to visit...coins or paper money to represent prosperity that you have been blessed with...good health etc. Whatever feels right for you...place these items and others on your shrine table. Candles...fresh flowers...or greenery also add a pretty and natural element...that will add beauty to your shrine...for you to enjoy throughout this month.
Once you have created your Thanksgiving Gratitude shrine...set out a bowl or tray...pen...and small pieces of cut paper...and each day write out what you are grateful for...and then place in your bowl...beginning if you can...the very first day of November. Get your whole family involved in this tradition...and ask them to do the same each day for the month of November.
On Thanksgiving Day...light the candles on your Thanksgiving Gratitude Shrine...as a way to focus your attention on all you have to be grateful for...and ask each person who has contributed their written gratitude messages...to take a few moments throughout the day or evening...to pause and say a prayer of thanksgiving for all they have received this year.
At the end of the month...place all the written gratitude messages...in a safe place...and keep them until the following year's Thanksgiving celebration...where they can be read out loud to everyone after your meal is over...sitting together in a circle. This is such a lovely...simple...and heart warming tradition...for you to practice each year...expressing the very important life lesson of gratitude.
Because the truth is...there is always something to be grateful for.
